Retained Ulnar Cartilage Cores

Retained ulnar cartilage cores is a developmental disorder of the distal ulnar physis.

Male, 7 months old, 5 kg Pug dog

Adopted at the age of 3 months

The reason of orthopedic consultation was left carpus valgus

no evident lameness, regularly active. no recent trauma reported.

Orthopedic examination reveals bilateral carpus valgus, more evident on the left forelimb,

bilateral abduction of antebrachium, no evident lameness.

No pain on joint palpation, normal ROM.

Neurological exam was unremarkable.

Radiographic exam and CT scan of forelimbs was performed

Diagnostic imaging reveal bone density alterations affecting the distal ulnar physis, bilaterally, characterized by bone rarefaction, retention of the cartilaginous core and irregular ossification.

Surgical treatment with bilateral distal ulnar ostectomy was performed.
