TPLO work-up

Spayed female, 10 yo , 28 kg, Weimaraner dog
Presented with chronic 2 grade left hindlimb lameness, partly responsive to NSAIDs.
Orthopedic examination was performed with sedated animal due to patient temperament.
Partly positive drawer test on left stifle with radiological findings compatible with incompetence of left cranial cruciate ligament, such as joint effusion and soft tissue increased density at the cranial aspect of the joint compatible with infrapatellar fat pad. TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) was performed.

clinical follow-up at 7, 14 & 30 days was excellent with good and early use of the limb.

Patient management was challenging but expected.

8 weeks follow-up radiographs detect exuberant callus formation at osteotomy site (evident around bony cortices on lateral side of tibia), suggestive of excessive mobility of osteotomy site, compatible with patient temperament.

16 weeks follow-up radiograph was satisfactory, patient was allowed to gradually return to previous activity.
